A Private School Education at a Public School
Golden Empire Elementary is a school which has demonstrated for years that it excels at educating its students due to the hard work of its teachers and staff. Despite having a relatively low number of GATE-identified (“Gifted and Talented Education”) students and having a relatively high number of students utilizing free or reduced lunches (the common indicator of a student body’s income levels – the higher the participation percentages, the lower the income levels), it consistently has ranked as one of the best schools in the Sacramento Unified School District as measured by various metrics (including the statewide scoring metric, the Academic Performance Index (“API”).
Unfortunately, due to a constant stream of budget cuts that come from the Sacramento City Unified School District, Golden Empire has had to drastically cut down on it’s programs. Class sizes have increased due to teacher reduction. Availability of after school programs for enrichment purposes as well as those services targeting students who need extra help and tutoring have been cut.
The first Hardcore for Education fundraiser raised approximately $3,000.00 for enrichment programs that would otherwise have been cut. We are attempting to double that amount this year and raise $6,000.00 to offset cuts to the programs that kids need the most (e.g. tutoring).
We ask you to help our efforts to support a great school by donating items for auction. All the funds go directly to student programs and none is utilized for administrative expenses. Please join our past and current donors by donating items for action. Not only do you get that warm and fuzzy feeling from helping kids, you also get to utilize your donation as a tax deduction (well…if you are from the United States…)
If you wish to donate, please contact either André-Tascha or the Principal of Golden Empire Elementary, Dr. Irene Eister. If you want more information about the school, please contact us and we will be happy to provide you with all requisite information (financials, non-profit status documents, etcetera).
